If you’re like me at all, then you never like the first or last book in a series the best. So this week Top 5 Wednesday is highlighting series that were the best in the middle. So here are my 5 picks for book 2 being the best in a series!
A Gathering of Shadows // V.E. Schwab
Some people found this one to be slow, but I really loved it! I loved the new characters introduced, the tension in the story, the relationship development – really just everything.
The Winner’s Crime // Marie Rutkoski
The world expands so much more in The Winner’s Crime. We see the characters evolve and become new people in this dangerous world.
Ink Exchange // Marissa Marr
This book perfectly builds off book one, and introduces more faeries (Irial and the Dark Court are my favorite!), more world politics, higher stakes, and more drama. It’s so great.
A Court of Mist and Fury // Sarah J Maas
Now for the book that will probably be one everyone’s list. ACOMAF really builds on everything we knew about Prythian, the Fae courts, and the characters from ACOTAR. I just love it so much! (It’s very close with ACOWAR for me, they’re basically tied – so this still counts.)
Catching Fire // Suzanne Collins
I was having trouble coming up with the last one, and my sister mentioned Catching Fire, then I felt like an idiot for not thinking of it. Catching Fire is easily my favorite in the series. We get to know so many more characters – the world really expands – and everything starts to get more high stakes!
