So Morgan Matson has just created this amazing contemporary universe with dramatic families, adorable romances, and lots of laughs and I couldn’t be happier to be reading another book from her! Save the Date was just such a joy to read. We follow Charlie Grant as she tries to survive her sister’s wedding, when it seems like everything that can go wrong already has, and she still has to deal with deciding which college she wants to go too. This was just such a fun read – honestly like a breath of fresh air, infused with lots of giggles.

Things I Liked
So if you know me at all you know I love family dynamics in books and this one had it in spades!!!!!! I love the Grant family and I could easily read a book about each sibling. I love the family group chats and morning donut breakfasts. It just felt like such a real lived-in family.

I also really loved Charlie’s utter adoration and loyalty to her siblings. While I appreciate how real the sibling relationships were – grudges, bickering, and midnight games of capture the flag – I LOVED seeing Charlie’s siblings through her eyes. It was impossible for me not to love them.

So JJ was so hilarious and made me laugh out loud many times. I cracked up at him calling the “save the dates: STDs.

Getting a little cameo from Clarke, Annie, and her dad (from The Unexpected Everything) was nice. I like that she’s connected all of her stories.

Things I Didn’t Like
I feel like it took too long to establish conflict with Mike and once we learned what happened I was totally #TeamMike. Maybe I was impatient, maybe it did take too long, either way it was really only a minor issue.

I feel like there was some unnecessary extra drama at the end of the story. Both family drama and romantic drama. Again, it wasn’t something that was a big problem for me, it just made the story a little weaker overall.

I’m so happy we’re finally in contemporary season and Save the Date is such a perfect summer book that combines family, weddings, drama, laughs, and more into this perfectly packaged bundle of joy. It’s such a quick read that will put you in the best mood! You need to read this is you want a FUN book and a good time.
