“I know what it’s like to tell yourself a lie so often that it becomes the truth.”
This was genuinely just a fun light mystery. It’s not that complex and it’s pretty easy to figure out everyone’s roles, but the Breakfast Club premise was just the perfect setting for a contained high school mystery.
We follow five students stuck in detention: Bronwyn, the seemingly perfect overachiever, Addy, one of the reigning queens of the popular crows with the ‘perfect’ boyfriend, Nate, the slacker drugdealer, Cooper the star baseball player, and SImon, who rules Bayview Highs unofficial gossip blog outing the most scandelous secrets of the student body. But when Simon winds up dead after detention all eyes turn to the remaining four for answers.
Besides loving seeing the classic teen stereotypes used in creative was in this story, I really loved the unique and unexpected friendships that form between the self-dubbed Murder Club. And while I’m not one to theorize in books, the surprises were pretty well telegraphed so if you want a story that’s going to shock you, thi probably isn’t it. But If you’re looking for a thuroughly entertaining light mystery story, look no further.
I totally agree with you, seeing the unexpected friendships form in this book was so refreshing! I loved each character and seeing them evolve in the story.
