Recent Reads Mini Reviews

I haven’t been in the most reading-type of mood lately because 1) THe Book Thief is a lot at one time and I’m just putting it off and 2) I’ve been marathon listening to podcasts lately instead. Still a fun time, but a different kind of productivity. But here are some of the few book I’ve read lately.

Love & Luck by Jenna Evans Welch

Love & Luck (Love & Gelato, #2)

Rating: ★★★☆☆
Release Date: May 8, 2018

Super cute, super quick. Perfect book to listen to while doing errands. I obviously loved the focus on the strong sibling bond between Addie and Ian and how they both helped/supported each other on their journeys of heartbreak and passion respectively. The conflict was relatively weak because a lot of it happened off page and the story moved quickly and lack a certain depth that could have elevated the story, but I don’t think that’s what the story was aiming for, so as an enjoyable read about getting over heartbreak and finding your own happiness I thoroughly enjoyed it.

You Deserve Each Other by Sarah Hogle

You Deserve Each Other

Rating: ★★★★★
Release Date: April 7, 2020

This was wonderful, dramatic, romantic, and every other positive adjective I can think of. Naomi & Nicholas were quite the pair and I loves seeing them reconnect. The story was equally filled with humor and heart that kept you engaged. I loved the small town feel with some of the quirky side characters. The world felt full and real – if a bit exaggerated at times, but that’s the fun part, right.

I received a copy of the book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Girl at Heart by Kelly Oram

Girl at Heart

Rating: ★★★☆☆
Release Date: October 30, 2019

I have not been in a big reading mood for the last week and a half because I’ve just been binging podcasts for some of my favorite TV shows. So I needed a light and fluffy book that wasn’t going to take itself too seriously and I could just sit back and enjoy it. Girl at Heat was a great choice. I had fun reading it, the characters were enjoyable, and the relationships were sweet. This isn’t going to be a book that’s going to stick with me, but it was fun while it lasted and did what I wanted it to do.

Happily Ever After by Kelly Oram

Happily Ever After (Cinder & Ella #2)
Rating: ★★★★☆
Release Date: April 11, 2017

I can’t believe it took me this long to read the sequel to Cinder & Ella, which is such a fun book that just brings me so many happy, fluffy feelings, and I had just a good a time here. There were many adorable moments and lots of great dialogue as you’d expect. And while there is some cringey moments, it didn’t take too much from my enjoyment of the story.

What are some of the book you’ve read recently? Are you currently fighting a slump also?
