I love this tag because it’s fun to look back on what you’ve read so far in the year – and I can’t believe I’ve already completely forgotten about some of the books I’ve read. I’m going to try and not repeat books so many have the time to shine.
For some reasons I skipped this tag last year, but I did it in 2017 and 2018 if you want to check them out.
BEST BOOK YOU’VE READ SO FAR IN 2020
House of Earth and Blood by Sarah J. Maas. I devoured this 800 pg. book like nobody’s business. I laughed, cries (a whole bunch), and got lost in the world.
BEST SEQUEL YOU’VE READ SO FAR IN 2020
The King of Crows by Libba Bray. I have to say this was a magical conclusion to one of my favorite series of all time.
NEW RELEASE YOU HAVEN’T READ YET, BUT WANT TO
Dark and Deepest Red by Anna-Marie McLemore. I honestly don’t ever remember what this story is about anymore, I just know I want to read everything they write.
MOST ANTICIPATED RELEASE FOR THE SECOND HALF OF THE YEAR
The Inheritance Games by Jennifer Lynn Barnes. This just sounds like the best murder mystery and JLB’s books have all been a good experience with me, and I’ve read most of them.
BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT
My Summer of Love and Misfortune by Lindsay Wong. I thought this was going to be my summer book. Gossip Girl meets Crazy Rich Asians (two things I love), but the main characters was so insufferable I couldn’t take it.
BIGGEST SURPRISE
We Used to Be Friends by Amy Spalding. I wasn’t expecting that one of my first reads of the year would have been such a gut punch, but this story of a friendship that just dissolves over time was heartbreaking in the best way.
FAVORITE NEW AUTHOR (OR NEW TO YOU)
The City We Became by N.K. Jemisin. I might not have rated this book the highest out of debut/new-to-me authors this year, but it is just such a memorable story with an expert craft and it made me want to read more from N.K. Jemisin
NEWEST FICTIONAL CRUSH
Kal, my space elf bae.
NEWEST FAVORITE CHARACTER
Anna K. what a babe. We love her and support her in finding happiness and taking chances.
BOOK THAT MADE YOU CRY
Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe by Benjamin Alire Sáenz . I am a sap who is capable of crying at anything, so this is only 1 of numerous books that brought the water works.
BOOK THAT MADE YOU HAPPY
I’ll Be the One by Lyla Lee. This was so utterly adorable and smile inducing. If you’re in need of a pick-me-up, this book is for you. It made me so happy, I recreated the cover outfit for work because I couldn’t get enough of Skye and this story.
MOST BEAUTIFUL BOOK YOU’VE BOUGHT SO FAR THIS YEAR (OR RECEIVED)
I feel like I’ve really bought some beautiful books this year, but some of my favorites are:
WHAT BOOKS DO YOU NEED TO READ BY THE END OF THE YEAR?
I am going to direct you to my recent 2020 Summer TBR and my 12 Book TBR for the year for some books I need to read, because I’m going to be honest, I haven’t really been keeping up with books coming out lately with all the release date changes.
What are some of your favorite reads so far? What are you looking forward to? Share below and happy reading!
