Publisher: Wednesday Books
Release Date: September 1, 2020
“Like light cast over the morning water, it became new. Every moment that lay ahead, like an uncharted sea. This was a new beginning.”
I don’t think I’ve flown through a book so fast in a while. This book felt like it was only 200 pages long because I couldn’t put it down and the story moved so quickly. But what a great summer fantasy read!
The action is non-stop and really propels the story forward quickly, with character introductions that create the perfect found family unit. Fable’s relationship with her father is complex and dynamic with a lot of hopes and fears between the two of them. The setting felt perfectly gritty and grimy, which reflected the pirate/seafaring heart of the story. I appreciate the small bit of world building we got, but that and the magic system were probably the weakest parts of the story developmentally – but still enjoyable, and I am very interested in seeing what happens next.
I received a copy of the book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review
