Recent Reads Mini Reviews

More mini reviews from books I’ve enjoyed to varying degrees over the last few weeks.

The Roughest Draft by Emily Wibberley & Austin Siegemund-Broka

The Roughest Draft

Rating: ★★★★☆
Release Date: January 25, 2022

This was such a beautiful missed connection romance. Katrina and Nathan have such an intensity and chemistry that is obvious and palpable from the first page and they completely hook you in. What a great read to end the year.

I received a copy of the book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.

Maybe Someday by Colleen Hoover

Maybe Someday (Maybe, #1)

Rating: ★★★☆☆
Release Date: March 18, 2014

“I failed miserably at trying not to fall in love with you.

I failed first.”

I was really hesitant to to go into this because while I do enjoy CoHo books and the deeply emotional journey they all go on, but I was so very nervous about the sketchy cheating timeline that I had heard about in this particular book. And while it’s definitely there, it didn’t influence my enjoyment as much as I expected it too. Sydney and Ridge have great chemistry – not only just romantically, but platonically. Their genuine friendship was as good to see as their romantic feeling develops. And I loved seeing a Deaf romantic interest – and while the Deaf representation was welcomed, there was some problematic and questionable word choices that would not have made the cut in 2022.

Love at First Sprite by Anna E. Collins

Love at First Spite

Rating: ★★☆☆☆ (2.5 Stars)
Release Date: January 4, 2022

This wasn’t bad by any means, but I didn’t really get much from it either. I was expecting a fun revenge romp with a hot romance on the side, but the revenge was kinda lackluster and underdeveloped, and the romance felt a little rushed to me. Because while I do think Dani and Wyatt have some chemistry, there wasn’t much development for the actual relationship – They become involved early on and I missed feeling the tension and build in the relationship.

The Summer Proposal by Vi Keeland

The Summer Proposal

Rating: ★★★★☆ (4.5 Stars)
Release Date: January 10, 2022

This was a really great story. Max and Georgia had fantastic chemistry from their first meeting. And while a summer fling isn’t the most unique premise in a romance story, it kept me engaged and had some fresh takes. Though the secondary characters were small parts, Georgia’s friend Maggie was a page stealer. And this managed to pull at the heartstrings as well as having some solid chemistry.
