More mini reviews from books I’ve enjoyed to varying degrees over the last few weeks.
The Hawthorne Legacy by Jennifer Lynn Barnes
Rating: ★★★☆☆ (3.5 Stars)
Release Date: September 7, 2021
A fun continuation but the ending was a little flat for me. I liked the continuation of the mystery and that Avery learns more about herself and her part in the Hawthorne family. But the character relationships and romances didn’t live up to my expectations.
Rhythm, Chord, & Malykhin by Mariana Zapata
Rating: ★★☆☆☆
Release Date: November 3, 2015
While there was a lot of moments and interactions I liked, the characters were kind of annoying and under developed. And there were some poor word choices that felt off and inappropriate now. This was easily my least favorite MZ book I’ve read.
Boomerang by Noelle August
Rating: ★★☆☆☆
Release Date: November 8, 2014
This wasn’t bad, it was just boring. I thought a hook-up and second chance meeting (plus a forbidden workplace romance) would create more tension between the couple, but I found them to lack chemistry completely. And while the main plot was both of them vying for the same position post-internship, no stakes felt real and all of the plotlines made for boring interactions.
Terms and Conditions by Lauren Asher
Rating: ★★★★☆
Release Date: February 24, 2022
I loved the chemistry between Declan and Iris – it was clear from the beginning that he was head over heels in love with her and was afraid to admit he has any feelings at all, let alone romantic ones, so it was cute seeing his outer shell breakdown through the story and the love between these two really grow.
