More mini reviews from books I’ve enjoyed to varying degrees over the last few weeks.

The Invitation by Vi Keeland

The Invitation

Rating: ★★★★☆
Release Date: January 6, 2021

I thought this was a charming, fast, read with a lot of chemistry and originality. I loved that Stella is developing her own business in perfumes – and her fascination with other people’s diaries was both charming and caused problems. Hudson is a great love interest – a swoony blend of confidence, compassion, and dedication.

Fool Me Once by Ashley Winstead

Fool Me Once

Rating: ★★☆☆☆
Release Date: April 5, 2022

This really lost momentum for me around the halfway point. I couldn’t get over the immaturity (and annoyance) of Lee Stone – affectionately known as Stoner to her friends . She killed my enjoyment of the story. I enjoyed the environmental angle to the story, but most of the characters sucked and I didn’t care about them at all. And to make it worse, Lee and Ben have no chemistry, so that wasn’t even able to help me enjoy the story.

I received a copy of the book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review

Still Beating by Jennifer Hartmann

Still Beating

Rating: ★★★☆☆
Release Date: December 30, 2020

Maybe a 3.5 but probably not. The characters emotion connection was powerful and felt developed – they are beyond connected by what they both went through, and I loved the flashbacks to when they were younger – but all the side characters were awful and brought the story down.

How Sweet it Is by Dylan Newton

How Sweet It Is

Rating: ★★★☆☆
Release Date: July 13, 2021

A cute book and a quick read. I thought Kate and Drake played off each other well – the Queen of Happily Ever After has met her match in the Knight of Nightmares. I also thought that seeing Drakes family was great and helped up get to know him because he was a bit more reserved than Kate – as well as his new writing adventures and Kate’s help, which provided may cute moments for the two to fall for each other naturally.
