More mini reviews from books I’ve enjoyed to varying degrees over the last few weeks.
The Enemy by Sarah Adams
Rating: ★★★☆☆
Release Date: May 10, 2022
As a foodie and a romance lover, I was destined to enjoy this book. It was both comforting – filled with expected tropes and formulas – and surprising – by subverting some of my expectations. The story was really enjoyable and I thought Ryan and June had great chemistry fueled by a mutual love of pranking each other (that did have them behaving immaturely at times, but I didn’t mind too much) and the story had a very light-hearted tone that was a great pick-me-up.

Archer’s Voice by Mia Sheridan
Rating: ★★★☆☆ (3.5 Stars)
Release Date: January 25, 2014
This is a story bout healing and grief wrapped up in a romance and it was very enjoyable. Bree and Archer have an immediate connection, but they develop a true respect alongside their romantic feelings and it forms an even deeper bond between the pair. And I loved the growth they go on individually as they both find their strength and their voices as they face their respective traumas.
How to Fake It in Hollywood by Ava Wilder
Rating: ★★☆☆☆
Release Date: June 14, 2022
This was a disappointment. With no chemistry and little development, I just could not become invested in these characters or their relationship.

Teardrop Shot by Tijan
Rating: ★☆☆☆☆
Release Date: June 23, 2019
DNF @8%
I DNF’d this 8% in, but gave it serious consideration after 4. I just could not get behind the writing style. It was so clunky, disjointed, and distant. I felt like I was missing a lot of backstory for Charlie and I didn’t feel like we were going to get enough for her to seem like an actual character instead of the quirky, sports-obsessed, pick me girl. I normally love a sports romance, and honestly, am not too picky about which I pick up, but this was one of the biggest misses I’ve had in a while.
