2022 Mid Year Book Freak-Out Tag

I love this tag because it’s fun to look back on what you’ve read so far in the year – and I can’t believe I’ve already completely forgotten about some of the books I’ve read.  I’m going to try and not repeat books so many have the time to shine.

You can check out the past times I’ve done this tag in 2017, 2018, 2020, & 2021

Before I talk about individual books, I wanted to share some stats!

Total Books Read so Far: 110
Most Read Genres: Romance
Average Star Rating: 3.39 Stars

You can click the book’s title to check out the Goodreads page, and the author’s name to check out my review for each book!

BEST BOOK YOU’VE READ SO FAR IN 2022

Grip (Grip, #1)

Grip by Kennedy Ryan. Truly one of the best romances I’ve ever read. Kennedy Ryan’s writing is special and this series puts you through the ringer, but it’s so worth it.

BEST SEQUEL YOU’VE READ SO FAR IN 2022

House of Sky and Breath by Sarah J. Maas

House of Sky and Breath by Sarah J Maas. This book was perfect for me. It had so many shocking and emotional moments – I was hooked from the beginning.

NEW RELEASE YOU HAVEN’T READ YET, BUT WANT TO

Book LoversThe War of Two Queens (Blood and Ash, #4)Four Aunties and a Wedding (Aunties, #2)

Book Lovers by Emily Henry
The War of Two Queens by Jennifer L. Armentrout
Four Aunties and a Wedding by Jesse Q. Sutanto

I’ve heard some mixed reactions to Book Lovers and The War of Two Queens, but I’m still excited and hopeful I’ll enjoy both books. Four Aunties and a Wedding is one of my most anticipated releases of the year and I can’t believe I haven’t read it yet.

MOST ANTICIPATED RELEASE FOR THE SECOND HALF OF THE YEAR

Carrie Soto Is Back

Carrie Soto is Back by Taylor Jenkins Reid. I can’t say this is the most excited I’ve been for a TJR book, but I’ve loved everything she’s written so I know I’ll love this one too.

BIGGEST DISAPPOINTMENT

The Paris Apartment by Lucy FoleyHide

The Paris Apartment by Lucy Foley
Hide by Kiersten White

These were two mysteries/thrillers that just fell flat. I was bored and the plot was lackluster for me in both books – which could have been saved by the characters, but they were a miss for me too. Both stories had larger casts of characters with a bland female main character.

BIGGEST SURPRISE

Mindf*ck Series (Mindf*ck, #1-5)

Mindf*ck Series by S.T. Abby. This was a fun, and engaging revenge story with a romantic subplot that I really loved.

FAVORITE NEW AUTHOR (OR NEW TO YOU)

Flow (Grip, #0.5)Grip by Kennedy RyanStill by Kennedy Ryan
Long Shot by Kennedy RyanBlock Shot by Kennedy RyanHook Shot by Kennedy Ryan

Kennedy Ryan. I’ve read two full series from Kennedy Ryan so far this year and I have to say she is definitely a new favorite author for me. She writes such deeply emotional romances and I can’t get enough.

NEWEST FICTIONAL CRUSH/RELATIONSHIP

All Rhodes Lead HereTerms and Conditions (Dreamland Billionaires, #2)

Rhodes and Aurora from All Rhodes Lead Here by Mariana Zapata. I just got the best vibes from this and it’s easily one of my favorite MZ books. Declan and Iris from Terms and Conditions by Lauren Asher had some great tropes and the chemistry was amazing from page 1.

NEWEST FAVORITE CHARACTER

Damaged Like Us (Like Us, #1)

Maximoff Hale from the Like Us series by Krista & Becca Ritchie. I guess technically we met Moffy in the Addicted and Calloway Sisters series that I read last year, but he was literal child. We really get to see him (and all the other kids) come into their own in this series.

BOOK THAT MADE YOU CRY

Still by Kennedy Ryan

Still by Kennedy Ryan. This is easily one of the saddest books I’ve ever read and I was sobbing through basically the entire last half.

BOOK THAT MADE YOU HAPPY

The Romantic Agenda

The Romantic Agenda by Claire Kann is a romance with an asexual main character and it was absolutely fabulous. Joy is such a vibrant, lively, and relatable character. I always look froward to Claire Kann’s romance stories.

MOST BEAUTIFUL BOOK YOU’VE BOUGHT SO FAR THIS YEAR (OR RECEIVED)

These Illumicrate editions were worth every penny and I am so happy to have them on my shelves.

WHAT BOOKS DO YOU NEED TO READ BY THE END OF THE YEAR?

I’m really trying to prioritize my 2022 TBR and haven’t made much progress yet. I think I’m learning that I’m just really not a TBR person.
