More mini reviews from books I’ve enjoyed to varying degrees over the last few weeks.
The Last Housewife by Ashley Winstead
Rating: ★★★★☆
Release Date: April 16, 2022
I could not stop listening to this – I sat on my couch yesterday and plowed through a solid 4 hours (though I do listen to all audiobooks at minimum 2x speed) and only stopped because I needed to go to be. I find in a lot of mystery or thriller stories, I so desperately need to either connect with the character or their motivations and I’m happy to say, I loved Shay and her journey both. This also had a small podcast element which I love in a thriller, though I recognize the faults of the true crime genre in real life. This story is filled with suspense, tension, and drama – your eyes will stay glued to the page.
When Gracie Met the Grump by Mariana Zapata
Rating: ★★☆☆☆
Release Date: September 15, 2022
This was a disappointment on most levels. Nothing really worked for me and I largely just didn’t care – about the characters, the relationships, any of it. And the banter was mostly awkward and cringey instead of flirty. An unfortunate miss from MZ, after enjoying her more recent works.
Built to Last by Erin Hahn
Rating: ★★★☆☆ (3.5 Stars)
Release Date: October 18, 2022
Cute second chance romance. I could feel the chemistry between Shelby and Cam, even if I did wish we saw more of their time together when they were younger. I liked the home renovation and though it game both if them a nice second life outside of the Hollywood games and glamor of their youth.
I received a copy of the book from the publisher in exchange for an honest review.
In Skates Trouble by Kate Meader
Rating: ★★★☆☆
Release Date: March 21, 2017
Cute sports romance novella – the couple is slightly underdeveloped, but their chemistry shines from the first interaction. And while the ending was a little rushed, I can forgive it a bit because of the novella length.
