Just Like Magic by Sarah Hogle
Rating: ★★☆☆☆

This was just a little too un-grounded for me. I don’t have a problem with the lighthearted, over-the-top dramatic, and whimsical reads but I tend to like the characters involved in those stories, while the MC here is if Scrooge and a Kardashian crossed paths. This just was not pulling me. But if your looking for a holiday romance that is heavy on the comedy (and light on the romance from what I read) I think this could be a great pic for you.

Say You’ll Be Nine by Lucy Lennox
Rating: ★★★☆☆(3.5 Stars)
Release Date: June 2, 2020
This was cute. Nine and Cooper are both very open with each other, though they have slight conflicting personalities – I want to help everyone always vs I need no help ever, but they work very well together. I wish we got to see more of Nine with his family because it’s such a large family with a fukk cast of characters that we dodnt really get to know; and Cooper with his brother Jacks, especially as he’s preping for a massive surgery. But everything was kept very light and easy to read so I flew threw this.
Spells for Forgetting by Adrienne Young
Rating: ★★★★☆
Release Date: September 27, 2022
Beautifully atmospheric and whimsical with a clouded, dark edge. This was a perfect light contemporary fantasy story for winter. I loved the insidious, small island feel (which is a character in itself with the legacy of the town) and the whole cast of characters with their own histories and motivations. Oh thebtangled webs we weave as we seek truths in present day to unravel what we thought we knew in the past.
Full Tilt by Emma Scott
Rating: ★★★☆☆
Release Date: June 28, 2016
This was exactly the story I expected. Heart wrenching, melancholic, and vaguely aspirational. I can’t in good conscious call this a romance because of the ending, but it’s a solid contemporary story with a heavy romantic b plot. Though I do wish we got more actual development between the couple. And the ending was slightly rushed after the event, but I can easily see where the story is going for the next book and the setup is successful.
