More mini reviews from books I’ve enjoyed to varying degrees over the last few weeks.

Spring Semester by Q.B. Tyler

Rating: ★☆☆☆☆
Release Date: June 12, 2019

This was just really bad. I think that this series is just not for me and I’ll have to give Q.B. Tyler another shot with a different series. Yes it is messy and I didn’t mind that – it actaully made the story go by fast. The complete immaturity, brattiness, selfishness, and controlling toxic behavior exhibited by everyone was unbelievable and made me hate everyone. And no one gets enough development in their batshit situations to actually grow or change on page.

Thank You For Listening by Julia Whelan

Rating: ★★★★☆ (4.5 Stars)
Release Date: August 2, 2022

A heart-filled and emotional romance with a strong self acceptance journey and family roots at the core, what’s not to love. I was engaged from the very beginning of the story – literally everything about this worked for me. Sewanee and Brock’s chemistry is palpable – and I loved their flirty emails and texts – excellent way to bring the tension. But while the flames are heating up, Sewanee is also struggling with her grandmother’s declining health and her resentment over the injury that ended her acting career. It’s a well layered and structured story that moves you between scenes that will make you laugh and cry. And I can’t recommend the audiobook highly enough.

Cross Checked Hearts by Cali Melle

Rating: ★★☆☆☆
Release Date: July 29, 2022

Apparently I finished this earlier today, but I already remember almost nothing from it. I typically enjoy brothers best friend, but this lacked all the tension and pining I wanted from this type of story. They hooked up way too fast and really had no development so the story just becomes forgettable.

American Royalty by Tracey Livesay

Rating: ★★☆☆☆ (2.5 Stars)
Release Date: June 28, 2022

This is a tough one because it wasn’t necessarily bad, but it missed the mark in ways too. I didn’t love the pop culture references (which were few and far between thankfully), or the male narrator (which was inconsistent and had little chemistry with the female narrator). And while Dani is a good character, I feel like she didn’t really get to shine and that make me kinda sad.
