7 Series I Want to Start in 2018

As 2018 is starting and so many fantastic new books are coming out, I want to talk about some older series that are out that I desperately need to read. Now, this isn’t necessarily on my TBR for the year, but I want to try and and start at least 3 of these. Now I only included book that have at least 2 books out in the series all ready, because if I wanted to just talk about series starting this year we would be here forever. Later in the week I’ll talk about some series that I want to get caught up on in 2018, again not including 2018 releases.

Grisha Trilogy by Leigh Bardugo

Shadow and Bone (Grisha Verse, #1)Siege and Storm (Grisha Verse, #2)Ruin and Rising (Grisha Verse, #3)

There’s honestly no reason I haven’t started this series yet. I mean I’ve read Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom, and enjoyed them both – though I do want to reread them. I want to explore more of this world and the powers and the politics. I just really need to actually read it. Plus, I know there’s a spin off series happening, so I need to catch up with this before I’m even more behind.

Red Rising Series by Pierce Brown

Red Rising (Red Rising, #1)Golden Son (Red Rising, #2)Morning Star (Red Rising, #3)Iron Gold (Red Rising, #4)

I want to get more into Adult SFF this year and I know this is a highly recommended series. It also just got an addition to the series, so I’m already further behind. I already know I have problems with the beginning of Red Rising, so let’s see if I’ll even want to continue with the series.

The Dark Artifices by Cassandra Clare

Lady Midnight (The Dark Artifices, #1)Lord of Shadows (The Dark Artifices, #2)Queen of Air and Darkness (The Dark Artifices, #3)

I want to actually read a complete Cassandra Clare series and I’ve only heard good things about this trilogy. I’ve only read City of Bones (though I did read it twice) and I have no real plans on reading the rest of The Mortal Instruments series, and I definitely don’t want to read The Infernal Devices (Steampunk/Victoria Era not my thing). But I already know all the main plot points, so I don’t care about spoilers or anything. Also, let us please ignore how hideous the Queen of Air an Darkness cover is.

Nevernight Chronicles by Jay Kristoff

Nevernight (The Nevernight Chronicle, #1)Godsgrave (The Nevernight Chronicle, #2)

The first non-complete series on this list, but not the last. (I know TDA isn’t complete either, but at least there’s a cover for book 3). The is another series where I’ve only heard amazing things. I’m excited to the morally complex character and all the action. All I really needed to know about this series is that there are assassins, and that’s enough for me.

The Conqueror’s Saga by Kiersten White

And I Darken (The Conqueror's Saga, #1)Now I Rise (The Conqueror's Saga, #2)Bright We Burn (The Conqueror's Saga, #3)

I read a sampler And I Darken years ages ago and I really liked, then I proceeded to never pick up the actual book. I like the genderbent historical influence, and I’m excited to see some more “unlikeable” protagonists in YA.

Winternight Trilogy by Katherine Arden

The Bear and the Nightingale (Winternight Trilogy, #1)The Girl in the Tower (Winternight Trilogy, #2)

This is a fairly recent series, with both books already out having been released last year, but they have taken the book world by storm. This fantasy series sounds enchanting and mystical and I have seen so many people rave about this series. I honestly don’t know much about it, only that it’s a Russian mythology inspired historical fantasy, and that all I really need.

The Remnant Chronicles by Mary E. Pearson

The Kiss of Deception (The Remnant Chronicles, #1)The Heart of Betrayal (The Remnant Chronicles, #2)The Beauty of Darkness (The Remnant Chronicles, #3)

I feel like this is an underrated YA fantasy series, but I’ve seen a few people mentioning it recently, and it sounds great, and filled with lots of politics (which is a favorite element of mine).

Yes to all of these! Prepare yourself to be mildly disappointed by The Grisha Trilogy (not as good as SoC) but it’s still an okay read (bc Nikolai all the way)!

I love the Grisha trilogy and The Bear and the Nightingale is my absolute favorite. I hope you enjoy them! I really want to start the Conqueror’s Saga and the Nevernight Saga this year too, I’ve heard so many amazing things about both of them.

I’m with you on the Grisha Trilogy, because I want to motivate myself to finally get to it after owing all the books for an entire year 😀 I also haven’t gotten around to Lady Midnight yet, because I want to finish TMI first – I kind of fell out of love with it, but I only have one more book to go, so I’ll read it anyway 😅 I’ve heard a bit more about The Remnant Chronicles so I really want to get to this Series as well! Too many Series, too little time 😀

I definitely need to read And I Darken soon! I also need to start The Mortal Instruments series over and keep going in the world. I LOVED the Six of Crows duology, and I have read Shadow and Bone, but have not really felt the interest to pick up book 2 in that series yet. I hope you love everything that you dive in to though! ❤
